Project Overview

ResumePro is an expert resume parser and ATS coach designed to help job seekers land more interviews. Powered by Google's Gemini, the application extracts structured data from a user's resume and provides actionable feedback to help them optimize their resume and beat applicant tracking systems (ATS).

1. The Problem: The ATS Black Hole

In the modern job market, over 75% of resumes are never seen by a human recruiter; they are filtered out by applicant tracking systems (ATS). These systems often struggle to parse unstructured resumes, leading to a "resume black hole" where qualified candidates are overlooked. Key pain points for job seekers include:

• ATS Compatibility: Not knowing if their resume is formatted correctly to be read by an ATS.

• Lack of Feedback: No clear understanding of what recruiters and bots are looking for in a resume.

• Inefficient Process: Spending hours on resume tweaks with no clear results.

• Unstructured Data: Resumes are often filled with unstructured data, making it difficult for an ATS to extract key information.

The core problem was to create a tool that not only helps job seekers understand how an ATS sees their resume but also provides them with clear, actionable advice to improve their chances of getting an interview.

2. The Solution: A Clear Path to Career Advancement

The solution was to build an AI-powered application that acts as a personal career coach. Key features of the application include:

• AI-Powered Parsing: The core of the application is a powerful AI engine that can parse any resume, regardless of its format, and extract structured data.

• Targeted Analysis: Users can paste both their resume and an optional job description to receive a targeted analysis of how well their skills and experience match the role.

• Actionable Feedback: The application provides clear, actionable feedback on how to improve the resume. This includes suggestions on keywords, formatting, and content.

• Clean & Simple UI: The user interface is designed to be as simple as possible. The two main input fields are prominently displayed, and the analysis is presented in a clear, easy-to-read format.

• Confidence & Trust: The application is branded as "ResumePro," a professional tool that job seekers can trust to provide them with the guidance they need to succeed.

This approach transforms the resume optimization process from a guessing game into a clear, strategic exercise.

3. My Design Process: Building a Tool to Empower Users

My design process was centered on the principles of transparency and empowerment. I wanted to create a tool that helps users understand the ATS process and gives them the confidence to take control of their job search.

• User Research: I conducted usability tests and interviews with recent graduates and experienced professionals. They expressed a desire for a tool that could demystify the ATS process and provide a clear path to improvement. They wanted a tool that would not only tell them what was wrong with their resume but also how to fix it.

• Information Architecture: The UI was designed to be as simple as possible. The main screen provides a clear call to action: "Paste Your Resume" and "Paste Job Description (Optional)." The analysis is then presented below, with a focus on a clear hierarchy of information. The use of clear headings and a clean layout makes the analysis scannable and easy to understand.

• Prototyping & Visual Design: The UI was designed to be modern and trustworthy. I used a dark theme with a vibrant, professional font to create a high-tech feel. The use of clean lines and simple icons ensures that the UI is not cluttered. The "Run Targeted Analysis" button is prominently displayed, guiding the user to the most important action.

4. The Final Product: Landing More Interviews, with AI's Help

The final application is a powerful and intuitive tool that successfully addresses a major pain point for millions of job seekers. It is not just a resume parser but a comprehensive career coach that provides actionable insights and guidance. The design prioritizes clarity, transparency, and a seamless user experience, making it an essential asset for anyone looking to optimize their resume and land their dream job.

Key Learnings & Outcomes:
