    Project Overview

    The Korean AI Skin Tone Analyzer is a modern, AI-powered mobile application designed to help users discover their perfect color palettes for clothing, makeup, and hair. Inspired by the meticulous beauty standards of the Korean cosmetics industry, the app uses advanced AI to analyze a user's skin tone from a selfie, providing personalized recommendations and interactive features like AR try-on.

    My Role: UX Designer, Product Manager, AI Solutions Integrator (as a solo project)

    1. The Problem: The Challenge of Discovering Your Personal Color

    For many people, discovering their personal color palette—the range of colors that best complement their natural skin tone—is a significant challenge. This often leads to frustrating and costly shopping experiences, where they buy products that don't flatter them. The core problems identified were:

    • Inaccuracy and Guesswork: Without professional guidance, users often rely on guesswork or generic online quizzes to determine their skin tone, leading to inaccurate results.

    • Fragmented Information: Recommendations for clothing, makeup, and hair colors are typically found on separate websites, blogs, or social media accounts, making it difficult to get a unified and personalized plan.

    • Lack of Tangible Experience: Users cannot realistically "try on" colors before purchasing, resulting in a high rate of returns for beauty and fashion products.

    • Complexity of Concepts: The traditional "color seasons" (e.g., Summer, Autumn) and undertone concepts (e.g., cool, warm) can be confusing and intimidating for the average consumer.

    The project aimed to solve these problems by creating a simple, mobile-first solution that combines AI, AR, and expert style knowledge into a single, intuitive platform.

    2. The Solution: A Unified, Intelligent AI Style Guide

    The solution was to build a comprehensive, all-in-one mobile app that provides a seamless, end-to-end user experience. Key features of the application include:

    • AI-Powered Skin Tone Analysis: The app uses a selfie to accurately analyze the user's skin undertones, identifying their primary and secondary color palettes.

    • Personalized Recommendations: Based on the AI analysis, the app generates curated color palettes for clothing, makeup, and hair, providing specific hex codes and style tips for each.

    • AR Try-On: This feature allows users to see how different hair colors and makeup shades would look on them in real-time, eliminating the guesswork and boosting confidence.

    • Style Tips & Guides: The app includes a rich library of content, providing tutorials and style advice tailored to the user's specific color profile.

    • Shopping Integration: Users can browse and purchase products directly from integrated e-commerce links, ensuring the recommendations are actionable.

    This approach transforms the complex and often frustrating process of personal color analysis into a fun, engaging, and highly personalized journey.

    3. My Design Process: Focusing on Simplicity and Visual Delight

    My design process was heavily influenced by the minimalist and aesthetic-focused design principles of the Korean beauty and tech industries.

    • User Research: I conducted informal interviews with beauty enthusiasts and those who struggle with style choices. They wanted a tool that was both accurate and easy to use, with a visual style that was encouraging rather than clinical. They expressed a desire for a "before-and-after" experience, which inspired the AR try-on feature.

    • Information Architecture: The user journey was designed to be as simple as possible. The flow is: take a selfie → get analysis → explore recommendations. The interface is clean, with the core functionality accessible from the home screen, and additional features organized logically in a bottom navigation bar.

    • Prototyping & Visual Design: The UI was designed with a soft, clean aesthetic. I used a gradient background to create a calming visual experience, with clean cards and a professional, yet approachable, typography. The main call-to-action button, "Get Started," is large and uses a vibrant gradient to encourage immediate interaction. The use of circular shapes and a light, spacious layout mimics the friendly and inviting feel of a personal stylist.

    4. The Final Product: A New Standard for Digital Style Assistance

    The final application is a powerful yet simple tool that successfully addresses the pain points of personal color analysis. It is not just a utility but a personal style assistant that empowers users to make confident and informed choices. The design prioritizes a seamless user experience, visual delight, and actionable insights, making it an essential asset for anyone looking to upgrade their personal style.

    Key Learnings & Outcomes:

    • AI Integration is Powerful: Using a fine-tuned AI model for the core analysis provided a level of accuracy and personalization that traditional methods could not achieve.

    • AR Creates Value: The AR try-on feature was a game-changer, turning a static recommendation into a dynamic, interactive experience that directly influences user behavior.

    • Aesthetic is Essential: For an app in the beauty and style domain, the visual design is not just a luxury; it is a core feature that builds trust and enhances the user experience.

    This project demonstrates how a user-centered design approach, combined with cutting-edge technology, can be applied to create a powerful tool that is not only a technological solution but a practical and indispensable business asset.
